2017 Priority Project Overview
I. Cedar Lake Farm
The BEC is evaluating a proposed Licensing Management Plan with the NJ State Park Service to convert Cedar Lake Farm from a deteriorating property into a recreational facility for Township residents and visitors. Discussion on possible collaboration with other qualified organizations. The license would allow the BEC to maintain the 100+ acre farm and develop trails and place markers for walking, hiking and equestrian use, biking, habitat restoration, as well as art, photography, and nature programs. The agreement would not include buildings.
II. Economic Development
Work with the Township Committee, other organizations, residents, business owners and our schools to develop and execute a plan to bring suitable businesses to Blairstown to provide services and employment to our residents. This would include development of an infrastructure for current and new businesses to support their investment in our community.
Provide places for people to work and generate ratables. Make use of some of the empty buildings. Look at technology to create additional bandwidth. Provide incentives for incoming businesses. Since Warren County no longer has a Chamber of Commerce, this will require strong public support and community involvement. Blairstown has successful events (Memorial Day Parade, Fourth of July, and Halloween) for its residents, but we need more events for businesses – those located in the Village and beyond.
III. Collaborate with other organizations
Establish a working relationship with other Blairstown organizations, including Land Use Board, Open Space, GBBA, Foodshed Alliance, Ridge and Valley Conservancy, Garden Club, MOMS, etc. involved in making Blairstown a better place to live and work. Important to get their feedback on Next Steps Project, Cedar Lake Farm, and other initiatives and develop a Vision for the Town. Presentations will be made at Roy’s Hall and in other locations in the near future
The Blairstown Enhancement Committee (BEC) is a group of volunteers committed to making the Blairstown area an even better place to live, visit and do business.
In collaboration with its residents, business owners, township, schools and other stakeholders, the committee's goal is to create a thriving economy, while preserving the character and charm of the area.
